Trigun Episode 23: Paradise
The episode begins with Wolfwood reflecting on his past. He remembers how he first picked up a gun at the age of seven, to kill a man. He also remembers learning all his skills from Chapel the Evergreen.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the deserted city, Vash is starring at "Knives" written in blood on a monument. He shoots it, wondering what Knives has to gain from doing all this. Wolfwood in the meantime, is working in his bike and is about to give up on it when Chapel shows up. Chapel asks him what he's waiting for, why doesn't he just, "Shoot him" Wolfwood replies, "Knives wanted me to bring him in alive" Chapel explains that everything has all changed, and that Wolfwood is now also officially a Gung Ho Gun.
Wolfwood is thinking about what Chapel told him. He is very conflicted. He thinks back to when he killed the kid (Zazie) and knows that he could have only saved one of them. He begins to cry but Millie comforts him. The next day, Vash and Wolfwood meet. They haven't been getting along at all since Zazie was killed. Wolfwood challenges Vash to a rematch from the quick draw tournament. Vash refuses to draw so Wolfwood asks him exactly what he plans to do once he meets Knives again. Vash says he honestly doesn't know. Suddenly, shots are fired and they both take cover in a building. Wolfwood says the sniper is Caine the Longshot. He then says that Stampede is just a code name, and that he wanted to know Vash's real name. Vash, instead of answering, makes a joke out of it.
